| In the fall of 2010, I found some episodes of The Fugitive on DVD. This was my introduction to the popular 1963-67 TV show. I was struck by the power of the central character, Dr. Richard Kimble, and have been painting scenes inspired by the stories, building miniature seedy-hotel rooms, and making tiny suitcases. That Kimble is always jettisoning or losing them is symbolic of his transience, of course, and the human impossibility of holding on to material things. All he keeps is all that anyone can keep: the inner self, expressed as right action and integrity in the world. The painting titles are quotes from the Prologs and Epilogs spoken each week by William Conrad. |
